Rachel Carson Families,
It was so nice to see so many of you last week at Back to School Night! If you were unable to attend, I have attached the slides below. This week is our first site visit of the year! We are so excited to get the kids out the Banks-Vernonia Trail. This is always a great community builder to start off the year. Please check with the information below so your child is prepared for the site visit. Have a great week!
Fundraiser
The Rachel Carson Fall Fundraiser is underway and running through September 29. District wide budget cuts have made this year’s fundraiser critically important for the success and opportunities provided by the Rachel Carson program. 100% of proceeds will go to support the average annual cost per student of $225. Funds raised are used for RC program needs including Site Visit transportation and entrance fees, Site Visit prep, classroom books and supplies, Canines for Class program requirements and dog support, Science Fair Supplies, science classroom supplies and equipment, community building materials and activities, and so much more. A donation of any amount is welcome and appreciated.
Donations for this fundraiser can be made via check made out to “Friends of Rachel Carson” and given in a sealed envelope to your students' Design teacher by Friday September 29th. Donations can also be made by Paypal @FriendsofRC or by Venmo @RC20more.
Additional support can be given to the RC program by participating in the Bottle Drop program and requesting a BLUE BAG (or 2) to fill with returnable cans and bottles. We will be organizing drop off and pick up locations for the bottle drop throughout the year, and these dates/times will be published in advance and posted on the Friends of RC website. Please email RC20more@gmail.com with a bag request and the name of your design teacher.
Any purchase of RC gear through Bonfire also supports the RC program as a portion of the funds are given directly back to the organization.
Friends of Rachel Carson is a designated 501c3 charity, and is also registered with Benevity. Benevity is an employer matching program and several very large and prominent employers in the region participate. If you choose to donate through your employer platform, your funds will be matched. Employers in our area include: Intel, Nike, Starbucks, Microsoft, Prudential, PepsiCo, and more! Please take a moment to check your employer’s benefit site to see if a matched monetary donation is possible for you! Benevity ALSO will pay for volunteer hours for many companies. When you come to school to volunteer your time or go on a site visit or work at science fair – if you record your hours with your Benevity site/employer, the program may be awarded dollars for your service. This is a very important way that we can double your impact!
Friends of Rachel Carson is also signed up as a charity with the Kroger family of companies. If you participate with Fred Meyer or QFC rewards, or if you have family members in Oregon or other states that participate in Kroger rewards, please sign up and encourage them to link their rewards card to Friends of Rachel Carson. RC will receive a quarterly donation from Kroger for your efforts every time you use your rewards card! This can be done in your account in the Community page and is free for you to do!
Thank you for your ongoing and generous support of the Rachel Carson Program of Environmental Science. We are ever grateful for our amazing community!
If you are interested or available to support Friends of Rachel Carson with your time or expertise we would love to have you join us. Please email RC20more@gmail.com with any questions or offers of participation.
First Site Visit this week
Thank you to the over 29 chaperones who are going with RC to the Banks-Vernonia Trail on Wednesday. Students will prepare for the trip on Monday. We are looking forward to a wonderful day!
On site visit days, students do not bring their binders and will not attend PE or Elective classes. Please try to avoid making appointments on site visit days; these days are unique to the Program and are community building opportunities.
