We Need You!

The Rachel Carson Program is built around a supportive community! We need parent and community volunteers to make every student successful. We ask families to find ways to support the program through volunteer hours, sharing their expertise, or donations.

**All parents: please fill out the new Beaverton School District Background check application linked at the bottom of the page.

If you volunteer in person at Rachel Carson or Cedar Park your company may match your volunteer time with money for RC.  Please check your employers donation and matching sites to see if your good work can be matched!

Volunteers

  • Site Visits

Rachel Carson students attend 20-25 site visits each school year. Site visits include removing invasive species from local parks, touring farms and museums, plus other outdoor learning activities. We need about 24 adult chaperones per site visit. Please plan to volunteer for at least one site visit. Grandparents, aunts/uncles or other family are welcome to chaperone as long as they complete the BSD background check (link below).

  • Science Fair

Students complete an independent science fair project during school hours. To make this successful, we need parent and community volunteers to guide and encourage students. We need parents to help with science fair display boards. We also need community volunteers to review projects and give students feedback. Science fair volunteers will be needed January and February 2024.

  • Community Garden

Rachel Carson students and parents plant, weed, harvest, and maintain garden boxes at Cedar Park. Please email rlc.coordinator@gmail.com to help. We nee more parent support as well as student helpers.

  • Other Volunteer Needs

Some volunteer items can be completed outside of work hours. We love for Rachel Carson parents to join the Cedar Park PTC. We need volunteers to coordinate the end of year RC picnic, and other miscellaneous assignments.

We also need parents to support the 6th and 7th grade camping trip to Oxbow Regional in late spring.
